The BMW Car Club of British Columbia’s recent Annual General Meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on the successes of 2024 and look ahead to an exciting 2025. Despite some challenges, the club was able to host a variety of memorable events, strengthen its membership, and introduce new initiatives that will carry us into the next year with energy and enthusiasm. Here’s a recap of the key moments from the meeting:

Summary of 2024 Club Activities

The meeting began with a look back at the year’s activities. While a few planned events were canceled due to unforeseen circumstances, the club successfully hosted 15 events throughout 2024, showcasing a diverse range of driving experiences, social gatherings, and collaborative efforts with other car clubs.

Dancing with Cones

One of the standout events of the year was the Dancing with Cones series, which became a fan favorite. These events were often sold out, offering members the opportunity to practice their driving skills in a fun, competitive setting. The addition of professional photography at these events also added a unique draw, with many participants eager to capture their skills and moments on camera.

Challenges and Collaborations

Despite the success of many events, there were challenges in scheduling, particularly at Mission Raceway. Conflicts with other groups and changes in venue management made it difficult to lock in dates. However, the club was able to adapt and collaborate with other groups to create new opportunities.

In addition to our local events, the club also ventured into joint collaborations. One of the most memorable was the Mount Baker drive, which was organized with the BeeCeeBeemers Motorcycle Club. This scenic drive, combined with drone footage of the stunning views, provided a new experience that attendees won’t soon forget. Another special collaboration was a wine tour with the BMW Club of Southern Alberta club, which featured visits to local wineries Burrowing Owl, Rust Wine Co., and Silver Sage Winery and a dinner at Tinhorn Creek’s Miradoro Restaurant

The BC Interior Road Trip and Car Show

This year, the club offered an alternative to the Duffy Lake drive due to road conditions and heavy traffic. The BC Interior road trip took us through a beautiful route with stops at Spence’s Bridge and the famous Big Truck of Logan Lake for some fun photo ops.

Our Show Off Event hosted by Auto West Classic Garage also proved to be a hit, bringing together a diverse collection of vehicles. The event included awards for the best cars in various categories, from classic models to modern masterpieces, celebrating the wide range of interests within the club.

Financial Report & Membership Update

The financial health of the club is strong, and the meeting highlighted how our continued success is largely due to the dedication of our directors and the support of our members. One of the biggest changes this year was the transition to using MotorsportReg for membership management. This new platform has streamlined event registration and made communication with members easier and more efficient.

The membership dues structure was also reviewed, with a proposal to maintain the current fees while continuing to offer members-only events as a perk. The proposal was approved, ensuring the financial stability of the club while keeping membership accessible.

Election of New Directors

Kevin Commerford is stepping down as club President and in his place will be Michael Shaw; previous Vice President. Shawn Sepehry joining the leadership team as the new Vice President. Their fresh perspectives and enthusiasm are sure to bring new ideas to the club in the coming year. It was also discussed and approved that directors would be reimbursed for fuel costs incurred while preparing events, with reimbursement requiring prior approval.

Looking Ahead to 2025

With new leadership, a continued commitment to offering unique driving experiences, and a growing community of passionate members, the club is set to have an even more successful year ahead.

2024 was a year of great growth and success for the club. We hosted memorable events, strengthened relationships with fellow car clubs, and laid the foundation for an even better year in 2025. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the success of this year. We look forward to seeing you on the road in the upcoming year for more drives, events, and shared memories!
